Iraqi Field Test

Hontek’s new sprayable coatings were used to coat the rotor blades of two Black Hawk helicopters. The two helicopters conducted missions over the Iraqi desert and rivers. They encountered severe sand erosion, and also rain erosion when they operated low above river water.

Initially, the Army set the pass or fail time as 50 flight hours. After one full year in Iraq the two Black Hawks have accumulated over 1400 hours of flight time!! The performance of Hontek’s sprayable coatings has far exceeded the Army’s expectation.

Hontek’s new coatings offer easy blade repair on the aircraft in the field. There is no need to take down the blades - a major time and cost saver. The coatings are easily repaired and are ready to fly after an overnight cure.

We have received enthusiastic testimonials from the soldiers serving in Iraq, as illustrated by the quotations below.

  • “Not one person has said a negative comment about this coating, and we get frequent positive comments.”

  • “We still request more blades with the coating we got for *** & *** as that seems to be the better product for wear resistance and maintenance load.”

*The ID of the two helicopters are masked by **** for military security reasons.

The Army has recently approved funding for an “Advance Demo” to coat more Black Hawks with Hontek’s coatings for deployment in Iraq.
